Knowing yourself

I think all children should be asked to critique education. No matter what age you are; from kindergarten to high school and up to college. The sooner people start asking these questions about education the better teachers and teach and guide students. Everyone learns differently because we are all different. If the individual knows and understands how they learn the better the outcome for the student and the teacher. Plus if that student does know how they learn then maybe they could help their fellow classmate too. The more ideas and critiques the better it can help both parties. I believe teachers do want to help students and we as students have to learn to ask questions and step up with our learning. Teachers have to be understanding but not be push overs either. My favorite teachers are the ones who are strict but fair. Who are engaging and have a personality, and they are passionate about what they are teaching. I always think it is cool when they give a background story of themselves in the beginning of the school year to tell us who they are, why they are a teacher, and to say, "I'm here to help you so please come in and see me of whatever reason, my door is always open." As a student that makes me feel more comfortable and also it makes me feel like they care about my future.

Student or not everyone should reflect upon themselves to know who they are. To get to know your strengths and weaknesses. Teachers should do it too. Why am I teaching? Do I enjoy teaching? What can I do to help students? Students need to take the time to go through questions such as, "why am I here? Do I want to be here? Who am I doing this for?" If students don't know these basic questions they could fail because there is no motivation, no passion and they could stop going to class and eventually drop out. People do things because they want to and/or because it is easy. School is very difficult and it takes a lot of time. Some classes that are not your major can be super boring. I don't like history my worst subject because I don't like it and its boring. I have found out what helps me in history and that is pop culture. I would ask my teacher questions about the famous people that lived in history and the time period we are learning and that helps me to engage with the teacher and keeps me on task. Luckily I have had wonderful teachers and whenever I have a question they are super happy to answer it and explain. I hate it when a teacher asks "Any questions?" and no one raises their hands because students do have questions because they will ask the person next to them! Ask the teacher that is what they are there for, but we feel more comfortable asking our neighbor than our teachers. I'm a reserved person so it will take me about a week to feel comfortable to speak in class. But I think the more questions the teachers ask students the better.
